So this hooks up similar to Teamspeak? Been a long time since I used a IRC channel for anything.

Not really. IRC is text based chat, which everyone can join (unless they are banned from the server/channel )

Get a client software, connect to a server of your choise (there's multiple different IRC server networs (IRCnet, EFnet, DALnet, Undernet, kazillion others)), and join a channel of your choise, or multiple channels if you wish.

Grandfather to all IM junk we have these days.

Ok..thanks Kaguya. That is what I thought. We used that in the 1980's before the web was really up an running. I thought this was a new feature like actual voice chat...silly me.
